Oh, I am sure there are tons of advancements with slot cars just like with model trains.  I always wanted to get the track pieces that had railroad crossings.  I had grand ideas to turn the basement into a fun game room with all of the track that dad and I had, along with all of the train track.  Of course grand schemes never materialized, but they were grand, I tell ya...
