RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-14-2026 Oh, I am sure there are tons of advancements with slot cars just like with model trains. I always wanted to get the track pieces that had railroad crossings. I had grand ideas to turn the basement into a fun game room with all of the track that dad and I had, along with all of the train track. Of course grand schemes never materialized, but they were grand, I tell ya... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-16-2026 It's always fun thinking up grand schemes. It would have been cool to run a train over the race tracks. And throw in a Duke's of Hazard jump and timing it just right for when the flatbed car creates just enough of a gap... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-16-2026 That reminds me of the first time we went to Maple Grove Raceway in PA. While getting close to our destination we crossed a wide road and looking right I realized it was the end of the track runout... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-17-2026 I was looking around that area and thought it'd truly suck to live near there knowing that for 6 months of the year you won't get a peaceful weekend. Then I noticed a "health society" and thought that's even worse. You're trying to heal and rest but also having the aggravation of the roar of engines in the background. Then I checked out that place and it's not what I thought it was. Not even close... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-21-2026 Holy crap, your comment just insinuated something and I had to check to see how close I was to guessing. I just don't get how a Sylvan Health Society can be "family oriented..." Like maybe the family that streaks together keeps together??!!! The other questionable item is how does a Health Society in Pennsylvania stay open in the winter? I mean Valley Forge isn't too far away and we remember our history books and what happened during the winter there... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-21-2026 That was my thought too both on the winter and family orientated. I still remember being like 7 or 8 and at Rocky Neck beach and hitting the mens room which was also a locker room and the number of old men with their floppy dongs just waving around was not something I needed to ever see. I would imagine that place wouldn't be much different, just more co-ed old and floppy bits. Although, with the new property and planning on positioning the house set way far back, I kinda planned on having an outdoor shower so after playing in the yard or coming back from a 5k or 10k run I can just strip right outside and shower off without having to track any of my stink and mess inside... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-22-2026 My last apartment up there had an outdoor shower that I used as soon as Jimmy opened it in the spring until he closed it in the fall. It was closed in with a door at least and had two rooms open to the sky. It was just awesome. The cabin up at Lake lure has an outdoor shower also, but no sky pics because the tree canopy covers everything. It's awesome to just shower and look out at the sunset that's right in front of you. The house at the beach has an outdoor shower as well, but the frame around it is gone so that's going to be an upcoming project. I highly recommend the shower outside, they are so useful... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-23-2026 There's something about being alfresco with nothing on. It just feels right, especially in the summer time. Go for a hike out in the woods and not having sweaty clothes when coming back would be fantastic. As it is, I do my 4-mile run on the trail and at the end I can literally wring out my shirt and probably fill an 8 oz. glass. You'd think I had just jumped into the river. The outdoor shower will probably make it into the final plans. But one thing's for sure, there won't be any stupid bathtubs... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-24-2026 You'll hafta let me know how the hobby shop visit goes when you get back. But I will say the mental picture that I got when you mentioned filling a glass with your wrung out shirt was pretty foul... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-24-2026 I don't really have high expectations for the hobby shop, but I'm hoping I'm wrong. Yeah, I get all icky after running, and I keep the weeds down because there's not much that likes growing in saltwater except seaweed... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-28-2026 How was the hobby shop? RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-28-2026 The hobby shop was pretty big and a bit impressive. They had a lot of stuff to choose from, but AFX tracks, cars, and accessories were not part of them. If you wanted the Carrera tracks and cars, there were plenty to choose from, but they were the large scale ones... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-29-2026 Ok, so I was not that familiar with Carrera slot cars. My uncle had a large set in his basement that were really cool, too, though I doubt they were Carrera. So I learned that Carrera is part of Ravel, so that might be why the hobby shop had that brand. But it also looks like AFX and Carrera play in different spaces too. AFX are HO scale and are much faster than a scaled up car. Think more like twitch arcade action, where as Carrera have a few different scale sizes and they are closer to scale speed and physics. So they provide a more accurate racing physics experience. Did the hobby shop have model trains and focus more on Lionel and not HO scale as well? Where is the hobby shop? The one that I am/was familiar with was the Train Exchange in Manchester... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-29-2026 Yeah, they had trains as well. O scale accessories seemed to dominate, but they did have HO and N scale, although the section was blocked off due to inventory storage/stocking. This was Amatos in Middletown. It seemed to be heavily influenced by the women who appear to run it as well. But we found these card/board games that sounded really cool and then looking at the back it has a disclaimer saying the game can only be played once since you have to destroy/damage/alter pieces of the game during play. That was kinda lame... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-31-2026 That place does look like it could be fun to just browse around. But one-time games would suck. Imaging not reading that and getting it home and playing it with Nancy. Then it turns out to be one of the coolest games that you want to show the kids but got to drive back to Middletown and drop some cash for another copy because your playing it destroyed it. Oh I would be pissed... |
