RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 05-01-2026

Damn! Where'd you find that picture? I don't think I've ever seen the inside where it wasn't all dimly lit. Man, if that didn't bring back a flood of memories. I remember so many times after school we'd drive there and be first in line when doors opened. Then sprint down those steps and to the right to be front and center at the stage.

At 15, friends of my girlfriend were into heavy metal and thought I might like it. They got tickets for Metallica in October '86 and that's when Cliff Burton tragically died in September. It was rescheduled for Nov. 30th and while waiting for the doors to open their tour bus was coming up. With the crowd and stuff, I had my back to it and certainly didn't hear. Next thing I know I'm getting pushed along. That was kinda exciting...

Metallica - Agora Ballroom

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 05-05-2026

I remember you telling me that Metallica was your first concert.  I'm not sure if that was a good thing or bad thing.  I mean to see them back in the day for Master of Puppets, before they ever made it huge and on the small stage is wild.  I mean all I can say is I saw them open for Dokken, but that was the Monsters of Rock and in a stadium when they were on their way up.

But that pic was on a page that existed as of last week.  I just tried to go there again and it's now a 404...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 05-06-2026

I remember that Monsters of Rock show. That was a blast.

It's weird that Agora page was removed from there. I hit the Internet Archive and was able to see it. I wonder what happened to make them remove that page.

Here's another blast from the past...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 05-07-2026

You might be remembering that Monsters of Rock show for a different reason...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 05-07-2026

That was the highlight of the show I tell ya. Right place at the right time...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 05-11-2026

I totally missed that one but I also vaguely remember another show for similar reasons...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 05-12-2026

Yeah, I remember that show as well - could have lost an eye if I wasn't careful...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 06-05-2026

Yeah, I'm sure this time was "hmmm, I wonder what's up, why no responses..."

Sorry, I check in first thing each day, but these last few weeks have been slammed every morning meeting with teams in the Czech Republic.  Hopefully they will have calmed down a bit now so I can focus on stuff that's really important.

Like replying to posts in this thread...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 06-06-2026

No worries. I chalked it up to either being on vacation or hanging around down by your new property and fixing things up. I'll admit I checked to make sure your name wasn't in any newspapers...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 06-08-2026

So far so good today, and for it being a Monday I haven't had too many taps on the shoulder looking for stuff.  Though there was one call that got shifted from later this week to this morning already, and someone else looking for a session on how to do something.  But some of those I don't mind as much because in the future I can tell someone to hit up those others because they know how to do it as well...

Though that doesn't always work when the management know I'm SME and still tell folks to ping me when they have questions...

Yeah, I'm glad I wasn't in the papers last week...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 06-09-2026

The amount of meetings I have is insane. 90% of my mornings are nothing but meetings. In fact I am double, triple or even quadruple booked for meetings. If I don't feel like going to one, there's always another one I could be going to instead. It's next to impossible to get any work done because of them. I had to block an hour at noon for lunch and that's one meeting I always go to and will decline any other attempt for anyone to invite me to a meeting at that time.

This is the common image shared during the meetings from one of the other devs whenever someone starts droning on and on about absolutely nothing...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 06-09-2026

Meetings are the bane of modern technology, it's insane how many exist in a given day and week.  And some just for the sake of it being a meeting.  My calendar does look a lot like yours with double and triple stacked events.  And with a 12-1 block.  But I will shift that block if something important comes up and whatever is ahead or behind isn't as important.  I don't have a problem shifting a little one way or the other, usually.  Unless it's a customer that is annoying, then the answer is nope.

But love him or hate him, Elon Musk's rules for meetings does come in to play.  I can't count how many times I've bailed on a meeting because my purpose was not needed.  How often that happens however is pretty few and far between.  It always seems like everyone joining from both side is counting on me to pretty much run things and tell them all what is needed...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 06-10-2026

Most of these meetings are so pointless - just re-occurring meetings for the sake of meetings. We have project manager's whose whole job description is "Must Make Meetings!" and include everyone under the sun. And oh, this year I've started bailing on meetings when they start getting stupid. The second someone starts to hijack it for their own agenda, that little "Leave" button at the top right gets clicked.

I've implemented some new rules for me:
1. Never start a meeting unless it's your own - meaning I will never be the first one to join on-line. I'll usually wait until at least 4 people have joined that way my mic is auto-muted and that's one less button I need to press.
2. Never join a meeting before its time. Too often I'll see the meeting owner start the meeting 2-3 minutes before its time, I wait until my little meeting reminder pops up and tells me the meeting starts "now". And even then, I might wait 1 or 2 minutes before actually clicking the "Join" button.
3. If I join the meeting and I see more than 40 people present, I nope right on out of there (unless it's a demo and I have something to present)
4. If a meeting is scheduled for 30 minutes, at minute 31 I click the "Leave" button whether things have wrapped or not.
5. I will decline all meeting requests that are scheduled less than 4 hours in advanced. That's bullshit. At least one day notice. The most infuriating ones are from the idiots who are practically slaves to the company and will be on-line at 3am and schedule a meeting for 9am. Or the ones that schedule a meeting for 1pm and sent it at 12:30pm during lunch. Yeah, I'm not going to those.
6. If the meeting presenter doesn't show up within 5 minutes of their meeting, I'm pushing the "Leave" button.
7. While in a meeting I will remain focused on it and will not do side work. Don't message me to look something up that's not germane to the meeting because I will just ignore you until after the meeting (or I push the Leave button - whichever comes first).

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 06-10-2026

Oooh, I like your rules.  Some of them I already follow, some I need to start implementing, and some are just not feasible.  At least 90% of the time...

But speaking of South Park, have you seen any of the footage from the recent Rush shows with Anika filling in for Neil?  Everything that I have seen and she is totally nailing it...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 06-11-2026

I've seen a few clips and everything I've heard of her has been super positive. She's damn good...
