RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-22-2025 D is for disk drive... I got a lot of games from them, but honestly the best things I got from them were the programming and hardware books... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-22-2025 E is for Easter egg... I got my 800XL from Brian, and I wanted to get Zork at the same time but he didn't have any copies. But he told me Enchanter was supposed to be the start of a new trilogy that was part of the same world, so I got that one instead. Yeah, purchased, not rented or pirated.... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-22-2025 F is for floppy disk... I had started on one of the Enchanter series where you could start casting spells and interacting with some of the creatures. But ya know, I don't think I ever finished Zork III. I didn't buy a lot of games, but I do remember getting this one... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-23-2025 G is for GTIA... I was able to finish Enchanter and Sorcerer, but I never finish Zork III either. That game was wicked hard. Like Suspended.... One of the other games that I did buy was Seven Cities of Gold. And that was long and drawn out, but still fun. Except when one of the natives accidentally bumps into you (or is it you bump into them?) and then the shit hits the fan and they all go crazy and you have to wipe them out... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-23-2025 H is for hacking... (I know we hacked a lot of the hardware) Seven Cities of Gold was always a good game to play. Frustrating at times, but it was pretty casual. And I think it was after a certain number of villagers bumped into you is when it started getting pretty hectic... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-24-2025 I is for Infocom... Oh yeah, we did do a bit of hardware hacking. While I didn't think that was going to be your response, one of my 1050's was a hacked Happy that I got from someone at one point. It was about half the price of an "official" Happy... Oh, and link related.... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-24-2025 J is for joystick... I had originally put H is for Happy... but I had the SuperArchiver. It wasn't until much much later when I got my hands on a disk that had a Happy chip installed. But playing games on-line is very cool, there's something about hitting an arcade and playing some of those 40 year old games... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-28-2025 K is for Kaboom!... Wow that was a hard letter to think of something, that's the only thing that came to mind, I thought there's got to be something better. Though the game *is* fun... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-28-2025 L is for Lynx... I've always enjoyed Kaboom!, but I found using the mouse in the emulators as a substitute for the paddles really sucks... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-29-2025 M is for Mega STE... Given enough time, space, and money, I would love to build a collection of Atari hardware and refurb it all to working condition... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-31-2025 N is for NeoDesk... That would be pretty cool to do. I've been watching a lot of DIY breadboard 6502 computers and would like to try my hand at building a computer from scratch... (I hope you can appreciate this image because I went through a lot of trial and errors to get a hard disk image created, recognized, formatted and ultimately booted from) RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-31-2025 O is for Oids... Oh wow, I wasn't familiar with NeoDesk, that looks very early Mac-like. I haven't tried creating a hard drive for Hatari, but I *assumed* it would be a bit like Altirra and essentially just point at a folder on the PC. It sounds like it's not so simple cut and dry, and thank you for your dedication to creating a high quality response to my previous post... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-31-2025 P is for "P:"rinter... Hatari does support hard drive emulation by pointing it to a folder - you just can't boot from it. It's how I got one set of HD drivers since they were downloaded as stand along .PRG files (and then to find out they were just demo versions). I later settled on the ICD Pro drivers. I think you let me borrow this printer and used it to print out big manuals while I would sneak out of the house. The printer noise made it sound as if I was still in my room. It was super slow if I remember too. And then ultimately settling on the Panasonic KX-P1124 (but I think I had the KX-P1091 prior to that one)... (how the hell is this information still with me from over 30 years ago??!?!) RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 08-01-2025 Q is for Qix... Ahhh, that makes sense now, it was booting from it that was the conundrum. I hadn't tried that before, I've just used the local folder as the hard drive and it just worked. Very cool that you could get ICD drivers working though, kudos to that!!! It still amazes me what they could do with Atari hardware... I did chuckle with your "P:"rinter device designation too, good one!! RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 08-02-2025 R is for "R:"S-232... (I was hoping for P and R and I had one job and nailed it) The hardware was amazing to say the least. The 6502 was just a phenomenal chip. It was simple, yet powerful. And it just worked. What I do like now is how there's a lot of smart people out there that can explain how it all works in a way that's super easy to understand. I wanted to go with either the 850 or a Hayes 2400 modem, but I thought the P:R: Connection was a little more "on brand" for the letter... |
