RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-03-2025

Oh, I know the feeling. Growing up we would always go to Knoebels.  It's pretty close to the farm and where dad grew up.  So every year that I went I would ride the Satellite.  My cousin always called it the salt and pepper shaker and was exciting as a kid.  A few years ago we all went to the park again and of course nostalgia grabbed ahold of me and I rode it again.  It's not so much exciting anymore as it just beats the hell out you...

Knoebels is a great theme park though.  It's free to park, free to get in, and you just pay for the rides that you want to ride.  It's a lot more casual than Riverside ever was since families would bring a picnic lunch and camp out at one of the tables while the kids ran amuck and rode whatever they wanted.  It's a lot more family and budget friendly since the older parents/grandparents that don't want to ride and just enjoy themselves can still tag along and not feel compelled to "get their money's worth..."

If I lived closer I would certainly check that place out. Just checking the web site and doing some street view browsing it looks like a real chill park. Doing a vacation there with a the camper trailer parked right next to the place as a kid would be the ultimate in core memory making. I imagine it would be a great place to just hang out on one of the benches and just do some people watching too...

Maybe we need to plan a trip to meet at the farm and stay for a few days.  Knoebels is about 15 minutes from there, plus there's a swimming hole on the property that's pretty deep.  I hate that the tree fell a few years ago, we had a rope attached, and you could climb and jump in as well...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-08-2025

Ya know, that sounds like a good idea. I've been running on the Hop River trail and pass by the old rope swing. It's been so long that the little tree next to the big one that got cut down is now big enough to throw a rope on it...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-10-2025

Being serious now, let me know if you do want to take off to the farm for a few days.  I'll need some notice to get the time off.  There's no internet, no phone, and barely any cell service, so it really does force you to unplug.  It's an old house and the Catawissa Creek passes about 100 yards from the house...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-10-2025

Seriously, that sounds like a plan. How's sometime either around the last week of July or the first week of August sound? What days would you have in mind? Weekends plus a weekday or all weekdays? Or a Thu-Sat kinda thing?

My geo-guessing skills aren't top notch, but is the place?

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-11-2025

Yup, that looks like the place.  What clues gave that away?  July is out, maybe first week of August, I think Caroline was planning to go out of town in July, Ill check and see when.  I was thinking a Thursday to Saturday/Sunday thing.  Hitting Knoebels on a Saturday can be a little rough...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-11-2025

Well, the 15 minutes from the park and being on the Catawissa Creek. The way you described the property in the past it was either on Sycamore or Mountain. Also I didn't think it was a working farm so that omitted a lot of the surrounding neighbors. But the fact that Knoebels is exactly 15 minutes, that was my best guess. I was thinking the same thing about the weekend being a lot busier than a weekday. I'm quite flexible with plans (except for August 23) so the days that work best for you will probably work for me as well...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-14-2025

Ugh, I hate my job, I think it's about time to start looking elsewhere, or just retire...  How do you feel about earlier in that week, like going to the farm the previous weekend and hitting Knoebels on the 18th or 19th?  Either that or a weekend in September, those are still decent and not as crowded like they are during peak summer, and the weather is really starting to get nice...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-14-2025

Retiring in 5 years.. 3 months.. 10 days.. 22 hours.. 43 minutes.. 56 seconds.. (provided the world doesn't blow up in the coming years)

I was kinda thinking September as well with the less crowds and probably cooler temperatures as well...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-17-2025

Well my brain cramped trying to think of a valid response.  I got nuthin' so thought I would just start back at the beginning...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-17-2025

When you mentioned that you were going to start at the beginning, I thought it was going to be something about coloring. But I guess it was also the recipe for making an apple pie...

(that's a Carl Sagan reference just in case)

A is for Apple...  No wait.  A is for Atari!

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 07-18-2025

B is for bit bit bit bit bit bit bit bit...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 07-21-2025

C is for CTIA....

I didn't get to rent very many titles from 20th Century, but some of the ones that really stand out were Boulder Dash, Archon, and Flip/Flop.
