RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 03-17-2025 How much better would it have been to just create that screen on real hardware and take a pic with your camera... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 03-18-2025 Oh great, now I'm going to be compelled to go through my storage and dig out an XL. Hopefully I still have the monitor I can hook it up to... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 03-18-2025 I was going to suggest one of the many hardware add-ons that are available today for the XL, but to be honest, I'm not sure I would use any of the video converters for long term playability. There's just too much / too many titles that take advantage of how the CRT displays the image. I was just watching a YouTube vid yesterday and they posted in big letters right up front that it needs to be viewed in 60p since the game (2600 Stellar Track) created the character set with alternating lines, and if you view it with the default setting in YouTube, all of the text looks like the IBM logo. Changing to 60p shows the characters properly. RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 03-19-2025 I thought about the display converters for LCD and HDMI and realized that you'd get a loss of the scan lines and the artifacting that went along with it. The retro image is what creates the nostalgia. I recently set up a retro gaming machine. It's just a tiny mini PC with a bunch of hardware emulators and a crap-ton of games, much like this one (yes, I used my camera to photo the screen)... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 03-21-2025 Wow that one brings back memories. I started looking through old pics, I thought I had some (or someone had some) of us playing the Lynx comlynked. California Games was a great one to play two player. I always liked Warbirds and Checkered Flag two player also... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 03-22-2025 Oh man, I totally forgot about Checkered Flag. That was a fun game to play... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 03-24-2025 Another game that I used to really like on that platform was Chip's Challenge. It's just a fun puzzle game, and I wish the Lynx had game save functionality. But at least it gave you a code each time you finished a level so you could start right back there the next time you played. (until you lost the sheet of codes that you kept them all track on...) RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 03-24-2025 That's funny, I was just watching a video of the Chips game on the Lynx this weekend. It's funny when you actually find a piece of scrap paper with a bunch of crazy letters/numbers and wondering what the hell they were for. And then you remember it was the continue codes for Road Rash II on the Sega... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 03-25-2025 I recently found a box that had some of my Lynx games. I'm still looking for either of the Lynx's and hoping the rest of the games will be with that, and that it is still working... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 03-25-2025 I tried using those codes on Chips Challenge and they didn't work. And those are some impressive high scores for whoever this KEV person is... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 03-26-2025 Try them on Crystal Mines II, that game was in the box with those notes. Oh, and that Kev guy was so far beyond and better than anyone else that played California Games that no one else got to put their name on the high score board... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 03-28-2025 Those codes worked on Crystal Mines II. I wasn't able to make it to level 55. I bet that Kev guy could... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 04-04-2025 I'll bet that Kev guy would have had a much neater list with handwriting that was legible. And it would have been fully completed by now... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 04-05-2025 I remember one day at work I was handwriting some notes and one of the other devs happened to stop by my desk. While reading the notes they looked closer and made the comment, wait, this is hand written, I thought it was a printout... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 04-07-2025 One of Caroline's early mentees had an amazing handwriting that I wanted to scan in and turn into a font, it was amazing, much like yours. Every time I asked her for a character set, she agreed, but never had the time. She also went by the nickname "LP" and when I casually mentioned once that LP was also considered a noxious gas, she laughed and said that's still appropriate... |
