RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 11-25-2024 I can appreciate CGI when you know that it's CGI and I'm sure the director wanted you to know it was CGI. I don't appreciate the CGI used to try and trick you. A good example was Call of the Wild. They did Buck dirty making him mostly CGI and not always adhering to the laws of physics... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 11-27-2024 Oh there is s much CGI that doesn't even get close to the uncanny valley let along attempt to breach it. And I'm expected to suspend disbelief? I would rather see a stuntman dressed as Spiderman over the obvious CGI that they have attempted these recent years. In some ways, Lou Ferrigno did a better job as the Hulk over the recent Marvel attempts... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 11-28-2024 Mad Max Road Fury I don't think used any CGI. All those car crashes and explosions were real. There's some things that just look better done in reality rather than a computer. Although, I do like watching a good stop motion video... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 11-28-2024 Oh, I 100% agree with you. Real effects have so much more going for them. There are some bigger budget movies that at least allowed me to suspend disbelief, like the Lord of the Rings movies were done really well. And stop motion animation when done well is as entertaining as any other format... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 11-30-2024 The entertainment factor is key - I didn't realize there was over an hours worth of Angry Kid videos. Oh yeah, the moon is made of cheeeeeeeeese...! RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 12-02-2024 Bingo, that's it. Entertainment factor is the key. Take some borderline animation but add a compelling story that pulls you in and you now have a great movie... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 12-03-2024 You need to make sure that any screen actors are a notch above home brewed local commercials done by the business owners because even with a compelling story, they can really ruin it. I should start reading more books though... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 12-04-2024 When I first moved down here, there was a commercial series by a local used car dealer named Apple Auto Sales. His gimmick was impersonating a televangelist and they were always funny... (Here's one of them...) Now those commercials had horrendous quality, but because of the fun delivery they were entertaining. But I agree with you, I need to catch up on some of my book reading... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 12-05-2024 OK, that one made me chuckle. At lunch the daughter and I had been watching rally races and a video recommendation came up and decided to check it out. It was pretty good with some nice driving. At the end we realized we just watched a commercial with movie theater quality. Needless to say we watched a bunch more of them... Carpark Carnage RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 12-06-2024 Dammit, I forgot to post my reply yesterday. I did say something... something... nice quality commercial, that was a pretty cool commercial with nice quality and a fun story that draws you in. Then something... something... about a colleague from New Zealand that shared this commercial with me... Then I changed to some other subject and mention that Dave Lowe released some of his archived Cybermorph content. I thought you still had your Jaguar and the CD addon, right? Those items are definitely worth some ebay bucks now... But at least I still had the image that I posted with the filename changed... Ok, now I'm hitting save on this one... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 12-07-2024 I saw that "deck" commercial a while back. Giggled quite a bit. I could have sworn it was you that shared it when you were here a few years ago. And of course those links to the Cybermorph backups put me down the rabbit hole. I don't have the Jaguar anymore, Hank has it now, but I do have the emulators. The BigPEmu works really good. And needless to say I spent a whole lotta time playing Cybermorph... and Tempest 2000... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 12-09-2024 Wow, I never knew about that emulator. I had toyed with the idea of getting the Pi Arcade machine configured for that and the Lynx, but just never prioritized the time to get it working... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 12-10-2024 I had to have been about 10 or 11 when I was dragged to one my mom's friends house. Bored out of my mind, their kid who had to be a teenager asked if I wanted to see something cool. So picture the typical living room with the orange shag rug (or was it green), the giant console TV that couldn't have weighed less than 500lbs, the multi-colored striped wallpaper and of course filled with cigarette smoke. He comes back with this giant thing with a keyboard and plugs it into the TV. Hooks up a joystick, lifts open the cartridge hatch (I thought that was the coolest thing ever) and pops in Star Raiders and starts playing. My mind was blown away. That was one of the most definitive times in my life that shaped the path I would take... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 12-10-2024 Wow, that had to have been a formative experience. Playing Star Raiders on an 800. My experience was just on the VCS with that shitty little keyboard with the cardboard overlay. But it was still a mind blowing game even on the VCS... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 12-11-2024 I remember saving up to buy Star Raiders for the 2600. I thought it was the coolest thing to have that keypad controller... |
