RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 09-06-2024 I get notices e-mailed to me whenever an exception is thrown. And I end up having to go into the code and making changes because a variable is being accessed before it's been defined. I think I've squashed all the bugs for now, but there's still an underlying issue with the default templates (I can't make any changes to them without crashing the whole system and I can't add new ones). This game impressed me the most especially because all the colors were done with artificating... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 09-10-2024 I'm looking at something similar for my media library. I have Plex but use that for video streaming. The music UI just sucks and is not fun to find what you want if you're driving. I like Subsonic, and still do, but it hasn't been touched in years. So maybe it's time to find some other replacement for audio streaming... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 09-10-2024 Yeah, I'll agree Plex sucks for audio streaming - trying to maintain a playlist is a fool's errand. I've been using Strawberry (a direct fork of Clementine that was a fork of Amarok) for home. I don't normally stream music anywhere else. For the car, I have a curated USB stick that I just let the car's audio system shuffle. If I need music, I'll just put on a Youtube music playlist - so far that's been working well for me... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 09-16-2024 I typically stream with Subsonic 'cause I find that I occasionally get an urge to listen to something that I haven't heard in a long long time, and putting the entire library on USB and maintaining it is not going to happen. RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 09-17-2024 I remember trying Subsonic a while ago and I wasn't too thrilled with it. My Roku and some of my tablets have DLNA support and Subsonic would work about 30% of the time. It was really hit or miss if I was going to get my music or an "unable to connect" message. For the most part I'm always in my room and have my 8,358 track playlist going so needing a new streaming app isn't high on the list, but I'll check Subsonic out again... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 09-18-2024 DLNA was something that I never played with so can't vouch for its consistency, I was always just streaming to whatever local device I was listening to (usually while in the car, or cutting grass)... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 09-18-2024 I don't really expose my LAN to the outside world. There's only one device that I allow to phone home and that sits in the DMZ and is monitored. With the new house, I'm going to rethink my entire network strategy... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 09-20-2024 I do have a couple of smart devices and some Roku sticks and those all sit in the DMZ. I don't trust those but it's nice to have on occasion. What other network strategy are you thinking about in the new home? RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 09-20-2024 I'm thinking of downsizing it a lot and building a few clusters using RaspberryPis or other SBC. I definitely want to keep with the VM style or using a Docker approach (still on the fence with Docker - it's cool, but still feels a little black-boxish)... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 09-23-2024 Oh, I know for a fact that your network doesn't look anything like that... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 09-23-2024 I think the Rambo XL was also my first modification too. Although I didn't have the Happy drive my next modification was installing the Super Archiver II. That one blew my mind... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 09-24-2024 I had the Happy, and I think that lot that I picked up also included one or two additional Happy 1050s. I can remember one of your upgrades was embedding a modem inside your 800XL. That one was impressive and freed up the SIO so it didn't dead-end at the modem. Yeah, those tanks were fun to modify. And relatively easy as well.... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 09-24-2024 It always annoyed me that the XM301 dead-ended the SIO. But yeah, those drives were tanks. Remember the cup of Sprite and vodka that spilled in mine? Ripped open the floppy disk to clean it off and dry it and the next day copying it, I lost only 1 byte. And the drive still worked as well... RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 09-25-2024 Oh wow, I had forgotten about that one. Yeah, but I do now remember we were saying at least it was Sprint and not Coke. One question though, did you remember what that byte was originally so you could correct it in the copy? ![]() So subtract that SIO jack, plus the smaller form factor / smaller pcb, they were able to save on cost. That was after Tramiel took over, right? I still like the 1030 design over the XM301. It matched my XL and was flat so you could set the phone right on top. RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 09-25-2024 Of course I knew which byte it was. It was the Action! disk with the BBS stuff we were working on. Looking at the source code of one of the files, there was an inverse question mark where a colon or whatever should have been. Easy-peasy. The XM301 was a bit of a poop device because it didn't have a power switch either (that was added in my mod), but the 1030 wasn't on the store shelves at the time because I would have opted for that instead because of its form factor. But I did find my machine and I remember taking the XM301 out and attached a spare SIO cable and routed it out the hole where the phone jack was. And it still has the Rambo XL board. It made me smile when I opened it up... |
