RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 05-24-2024

Oh yeah, now I'm remembering when he and Cat lived together.  They had a nice garden plus chickens.  That's when I learned how to tell when a chicken lays an egg, we were in the backyard and one of the hens was clucking and let out a loud squawk...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 05-24-2024

We've been talking about getting chickens since we love our eggs. Every time we go up north we come home with about 6 dozen eggs from her parent's chickens...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 05-28-2024

We only have eight (our leghorn died from the flu, we think.  We got her away and quarantined before it spread to any of the others) and they give us about six eggs a day.  A dozen eggs every other day is more than I eat.

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 05-28-2024

Oh man, that stinks. The in-laws had a problem with a weasel that was getting into their coop - took out their pheasants, peacock and hen and a bunch of chickens...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 05-29-2024

Oh damn, that part is what always scares me.  However it's not weasels that I fear (I don't think we have any of those in Charlotte).  But the dogs, cats, and raptors that are forever roaming around here.  I had heard that if you have black chickens in the group that keeps raptors away because they think that those are crows, and they don't like crows.

The bright orange yolk that sits on top of the white like a ball and isn't flat and pale yellow is a dead giveaway that these are quality fresh eggs...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 05-29-2024

Oh man, that's an awesome tag to have. Nice. Yeah, raptors will be an issue in my area. We have hawks that hang out in our back yard. We also have a bunch of asshole bluejays too. One of the coolest events I witnessed was when one of the assholes was on our birdbath just being loud and obnoxious. I get out the pellet gun to quiet that jerk once and for all. I'm a good shot and it's always one shot - one kill. But this time I winged it (pun intended). It fell down and started flopping around. Crud, I generally don't like seeing that so I'm getting ready to go out there and complete the mission and before I could put the gun down a hawk comes out of no where and scoops it up and flies away. I couldn't have been any more happier...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 06-03-2024

I've seen enough hawks pick off back yard visitors, nature is pretty awesome...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 06-04-2024

Nature is freaking awesome. I had a frequent visitor that was being a serious nuisance. I tried some deterrents but had to resort to my trap. It eventually ended up in the pit-of-giving where all my small rodents end up and are always gone the next day (the nightlife eats well). Anyway, the raccoon stuck around a lot longer than expected and on the 4th day attracted the vultures. This is one I captured - there were 2 or 3 other vultures in the trees so you can see it's being very cautious and protective...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 06-12-2024

Oh man, that is cool that you got some footage.  There's a raptor rehab facility not far from me that keeps those that can't be released back to the wild in various facilities as part of their nature trail system.  It's a very cool place to visit...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 06-12-2024

There's something awe inspiring about raptors. What's funny is that's the name of our dev team. All the other teams in the unit gave typical nerd names related to computers and such...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 06-13-2024

Nice that your team wanted a good team name.  It reminds me of the time were were deciding on what to name the new storage drives for the Novell server.  I was voting for Lisa and I think you were too.  But we got out voted or just overruled and they got named Tom and Jerry.  Dammit...

What was the other name that was suggested?

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 06-13-2024

Oh shit I forgot about the drive name voting. Yeah, Lisa was one. Rodney (no respect) was another. I was going through my old code archives and didn't have any configs in there. Just the typical mapped drives. I liked it when we would map the "IN" directory to "F:". The files are in the effen directory...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 06-20-2024

Oh damn, I had forgotten and the F:\IN directory.  I am a little surprised that one passed and was used.  I know Frank had a great sense of humor, but he was always looking for for potential HR snafus.

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Blaze - 06-20-2024

His humor was dry and sometime a little highbrow, but he did let us get away with a lot of things - and he knew the importance of optics, especially since the floor production staff was not exactly full of bright bulbs...

RE: Uncle DT's Random Image Thread - Kruger - 06-21-2024

I definitely liked Frank's management style, it was a lot like Dave's and Randy's as well.  The manager that I have now, and my primary PM are both pretty similar.  The one manager that I recently had and didn't like was Davide at Doxee.  He's the primary reason I'm not still there...
