Oh yeah, we got the paper too and I looked forward to reading those comics every day.  And the highlight was of course Calvin and Hobbes...

I kinda miss the old school dead tree paper along with Calvin & Hobbes and the Farside...

I can, however, think of a few dead tree paper books that I would not want to read while on the crapper...

Yeah, if I have the chance of summoning the dead while reading the Necronomicon, I certainly wouldn't want my pants around my ankles...

At least keeping your pants around your ankles when summoning the dead ensures your shorts aren't soiled...

So the trade off is that your pants and underwear are clean when you're disemboweled because it's not like you're going to get up and run away...

So many options with that image.  I was going to first go with the Scream, then maybe the mask from Scream.  Or even the mind flayer from Stranger Things, or possibly the flying spaghetti monster.  But instead I think I'll go with this one...

After seeing that pictures, I came up with some options too like Alfred Hitchcock, Rod Serling, Wes Craven, or Stephen King. But in the end I went with my first introduction to the macabre and what-the-hell-did-I-just-read instead...

Oh man definitely.  My first introduction to his genius was in grade school and we read the story out loud in the class for Halloween.  I used the Cask of Amontillado as the source for a book report / short story report once as well...

It wasn't until junior or senior year that we got officially introduced to Poe's work. But I know I had read some of his stuff in the middle school library while also reading Tolkien's The Hobbit...

It wasn't long after reading The Hobbit when the movie played on TV. Oh boy that was not how I envisioned what things looked like...

At least the Hobbit was animated better than the Lord of the Rings back then.  Sometimes rotoscoping worked, this time it really didn't...

I know what you mean. It was at times jarring to watch, especially with backgrounds that were just a bit too psychedelic. I guess it was really meant for that time while experiencing a chemical mind altering experience. At least I think this one was done right. At times, less is more...

When done right, mixing CGI and animation with real footage can be a joy to watch.  Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Jurassic Park, and Tron II were two that got it right...
