Oh, that's just code and "deliverables" that are part of our projects. When we're on teams calls, this is my "usual" backdrop. It occasionally changes depending on my mood, or depends on whatever someone else might have as a background...

That's a sweet background to use. We've blocked our laptop cameras, so whenever we're in a meeting with some upper management yahoo that "demands" cameras to be on all they get is a bunch of black boxes. We're also smart enough to feign ignorance on why none of our cameras seem to work - maybe it's something to do with the subnet we're on and IT security is preventing videos from being streamed. But if push comes to shove and I'm forced to turn it on, all they get is a picture of my floor since that's where the laptop sits. It doesn't rank high enough on my importance meter to get a spot on the desk...

Wanna talk support, our support team is shit. I'm not talking about the software support team that manages customer tickets related to our software, those folks are amazing. I'm talking about our internal support / IT team. Those folks suck. So a few months ago, the laptop finally dies. Now we're supposed to get new laptops every three years, the laptop that I had was approaching year six and the fan died causing it to overheat and kill the processor. Not to mention the case was bulging slightly under the track pad. But because I didn't use the track pad, it wasn't an issue (they said). Of course without thinking, oh, that's where the batteries are. Anyway, they send me a new laptop and I plug my headset into the 1/8" headset jack. There aren't enough USB ports, one is for power, one for the external backup drive, one for mouse and one for keyboard. Ok, this headset can just plug into the mic jack. After that, all of my calls complained that my mic was really low, and for the life of me, I couldn't figure it out, thinking it's a driver issue, a Win 11 setting issue, something, anything, so I opened a ticket with IT support. Meanwhile I'm on with one of my customers on their project and the call was finished and they offered to help me look for the problem. It turns out the mic jack is just a headphone jack. (facepalm). Anyway, that was already a few weeks after I opened the ticket, so for shits and giggles, I'm waiting to see how long before someone recognizes that there is a ticket that has been opened and nothing updated for months...

This is what happens when you decide to let offshore handle the internal help desk tickets. I had one just this week where I needed a bunch of servers whitelisted and in the ticket I have them all listed out, gave the external server it should be applied to along with the necessary ID information for the different "apps" that will be making the requests. Once it got transferred to the proper team I get a reply "Can you provide the list of servers?". Da-fuq is wrong with these people...?!?!?

Yeah, sometimes having an offshore team is counter productive...

There are times when I did legitimately pick it up for the articles. Like the John Lennon interview...

The internet has really ruined those "coming of age" moments of a little boy's life. Nothing like when your friend finds his older brother's stash and flipping through them and realizing, damn, there's more articles than pictures...

or when my cousin found our uncle's (or probably dad's) stash in the barn at my grandparents house...

I remember finding my uncle's at my grandparent's house as well. Except his stash was mostly comics but drawn in the same style as Mad magazine...

Growing up, my friend across the street had a lot of Mad magazines. Another friend's older brother was big into Heavy Metal magazine...

I hit the Internet Archive and read a copy of Heavy Metal. I'm kinda glad I didn't know about that one when I was younger - I think that would have ruined me...

Oh yeah, then you can imagine what a pre-pubescent adolescent thought when their friend shows him his magazine collection...

When we used to get the paper delivered, the comic section was my choice of reading entertainment. Currently, I've been going through this book for no absolute purpose other than I'm a geek and find it just about as equally entertaining as the comics...
