I don't remember when that happened, it was only a few years later when someone mentioned it and I found out. But no matter if he was an asshole or not, I still felt pretty bad about him getting shitted the way he did.
I might need to read the Wiki article, but you know what they say about everything that you read on the interwebs...

To a degree. The history of the civil war that I learned up there is a little different than the version down here. Granted, the south still lost, but the reason it started was over states rights. But then you tell someone that states wanted the right to govern their own laws regarding slavery instead of adhering to the federal government making it completely illegal, so the underlying cause of the civil war was slavery, they will vehemently disagree...

At least when I was in school, it was said that the history books down south had a different version where they won - so my "history is written by the winners" still stands. Granted, the south isn't exactly known for their high scholars. And it was just last year I learned why Oklahoma has that pan handle. I'll give you a guess... Texas loves slavery. But that'll mean nothing when we all become slaves to our new overlords...
I will confirm that there are occasions when I wonder how far someone made it in their school work. I have also noticed that there is an abundant of "home schooled" individuals here, and everyone thinks that is just ok. I guess if you lower the bar far enough...
So like that Netflix Black Mirror series, I have concluded that our overlords are not going to be the brightest, but more like they're the strongest and quickest...

I've been watching in slow motion the regression of rational people. Most of my relatives have been consumed by the vitriol of far right media that has made it next to impossible to have any kind of meaningful conversation without them making it about politics. It's such a shit-show - the slightest displeasure about something like how it seems I manage to always end up at red lights, hardly ever are they green for me and their response is some garbage like "that's because of Biden and his stupid mandates he shoves down our throats". Like holy hell, shut the fuck up you absolute troglodyte dumb-ass. And some of them are homeschooling their kids. Those kids are going to end up dumber than their already dumb parents because ya know, the gays and drag queens are taking over the education system. For crying out loud, how the hell do they manage to survive? Stupid should hurt...
Oh yeah, that's one of the reasons I don't visit that book of face site as much anymore. There's just too much insanity in my feed and it's all on the extreme end of both side. There is a chasm in the middle now that is insurmountable at this point...

Facebook in general is just a cesspool. There's just so much manufactured rage or emphasis on "hey, look how great my life is". People need to chill out and bring back the fun. Like this: "Hey everyone, I met up with the guys last night and we went out for drinks..."
It used to be a good platform and now it's just filled with the all about meeeee's and political extremists on one side or the other interspersed with ads every other post. I know you got rid of your ads, but the effort required is not worth it when the rest of what's left is crap...

The other day I the wife was on her tablet going through Facebook and I was appalled at what I was seeing. As she was scrolling it was nothing but sponsored posts or ads. There were probably 3-4 screens worth of that nonsense before seeing a "friend" post. I was like, how do you put up with that? If that's all I saw I would have dropped Facebook in an instant. That was insane.
Here's an instance where I did something fun (Looney Tunes symphony) and didn't have to tell the whole world about it (until now)...
Oh wow, the show was here a few months ago and I didn't hear about it until it was too late. Dammit! How was it? I hope they had a screen up and were showing related shorts...

Hank's the one who mentioned it to me and that night I went and got tickets. Yeah, it's one of those things that doesn't seem to get advertised (but to be fair, it's very rarely I see any ads). But I'm on the symphonies e-mail list so if/when they come around again I should know. The show was really good. The live symphony did the soundtrack for all the shorts they played. The conductor went into details how all the timing is managed and we had a good time...
I'm going to be looking to re-do the forum again this winter. It's been broken for over a year now and I keep playing whack-a-mole with the errors that keep cropping up. I also had to shut down the new user sign-up as well since it was getting to be a giant pain in the butt with the damn bots. I've been trying to keep up with regular backups - we've got over 6,100 images going on here (and of course I'll migrate them over to whatever new system I decide to go with)...
