I was going to suggest one of the many hardware add-ons that are available today for the XL, but to be honest, I'm not sure I would use any of the video converters for long term playability.  There's just too much / too many titles that take advantage of how the CRT displays the image.  I was just watching a YouTube vid yesterday and they posted in big letters right up front that it needs to be viewed in 60p since the game (2600 Stellar Track) created the character set with alternating lines, and if you view it with the default setting in YouTube, all of the text looks like the IBM logo.  Changing to 60p shows the characters properly.
